Lille is a French coal mining town located on the River Deûle, and shares its borders with Belgium. It is also the capital of Nord-Pas de Calais region and considered to be one of the most important crossroads of European high-speed rail. Lille is a beautiful place especially with the historical buildings that look pleasantly alive and the old mansions similar to the ones in Brussels. It was awarded the European City of Culture in 2004.
