Charente is named after the Charente River and is one of the departments in the region of central France. Created as of one the 83 original departments at the time of the French Revolution in 1790, Charente has been created from the Angoumois province.
It is also one of the four departments that make up of the Poitou-Charente region, along with Charente-Maritime, Deux-Sèvres and Vienne. The city is located in the Southern French region and lies in close proximity with the Altantic Ocean and offers a mild and temperate climate. The region is characterised by beautiful and serene countryside, expanses of aromatic vineyards, and rolling hills with forests and gorges, lakes and rivers. With some of the most precious architecture jewels dating back to the Roman era, Charente is home to buildings such as La Rochefoucauld Chateau, Angoulême’s Cathedral St Pierre, and the towering belfry at Lesterps Abbey.
French real estate offers everything from luxury villas, modern apartments, holiday homes and prime commercial land plots in regions that are beautiful, charming, and full of tradition and heritage.
